Director of Communications
Ariel Gibbs is an Illinois native with a breadth of experience in the public service and non-profit sector. Ariel received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was also a student-athlete and the team captain for the Division 1 track and field team. She received a Master of Art’s degree in Sociology from San Diego State University and completed the RISE San Diego Urban Leadership Fellowship program.
Ariel has previous experience as the Communications Manager for then San Diego City Councilmember Monica Montgomery Steppe, and in the State Legislature, serving Senator Ben Hueso (D-40) and Assemblymember Akilah Weber (D-79). Ariel has also worked for the Chicago Urban League and for the Cook County Department of Corrections.
Ariel hopes to foster change and empower underserved communities and continues to work with advocates and impacted individuals on social injustices and criminal justice issues in San Diego.
