Mariah Jameson is a Community Activist, Scholar, and Mother of two. She has attributed her love for all things social justice to her work in the community and advocacy for former foster youth.
Mariah was born and raised in Southeast San Diego and graduated from Lincoln High School. Mariah and a group of friends co-founded a grassroots all-women-led organization called NUBIA, providing essential needs to the unhoused community, raising awareness about unmet community needs, and hosting various drives. NUBIA was awarded Community Activist of the Year by the Blue Heart Foundation in 2016.In 2018, Mariah was awarded The Blue Heart Foundation’s Guardian Scholar Award, which is given to a former foster youth and current student who is an advocate for others and role model to their community. In 2019, The Blue Heart Foundation renamed the Guardian Scholar Award to the Mariah Jameson Scholarship, dedicating it in recognition of her.
Mariah is a first-generation college graduate, she attended San Diego City College and served as the UMOJA Club President for 3 years before transferring to Clark Atlanta University. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work with a concentration on Mental Health. Once accepted into the Advanced Standing Master’s program at CAU, Mariah began to explore different elements of Social Work, including research and is currently on staff with Rise Research and Evaluation, which affirms Social Justice while focusing on the intersection of culture and wellness. While attending her Graduate program, Mariah organized Peer Mental Health Counseling for Graduate social work students to provide mental and emotional support to peers after multiple tragedies on campus. Mariah is proud to utilize her knowledge, experience, and diverse skillset to serve District Four residents and beyond.
